The Australian Children's Orchestra & Sinfonia (adult orchestra) and the Australian Children's Chorus & Choric Theatre are all accredited programs of the Masters International Institute - School of Music.

MUSIC LESSONS
Music Lessons are available in group classes or private tuition format.  All students learn theory, instrumental technical skills, singing, rhythm training and solo and group performance skills. Students also sing and perform in the Australian Children’s Chorus & Choric Theatre as part of their musical training. They are also well trained for music exams accredited and recognised by the Masters International Institute School of Music.  All our registered MII teachers are highly qualified and experienced complete with WWCC & NCC (compliance checks). See Timetable & Child Safe Policy. Lessons are also available in BAND instruments (Flute Clarinet, Sax, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone). 

LESSON REQUIREMENTS

  • Instrument (Violin, Viola, or Cello)
  • Music stand, texts, pencil and rubber.​ 


MUSIC EXAMS
All students have access to music exams as part of their training. Awards are granted to successful candidates at the end of term concerts.​ ​​​


CONCERTS
All students perform in concerts held at the end of every term. This might include solo performances, smaller groups, orchestra and chorus.

Gain is a leadership development program using music-making as a metaphor to explore universal leadership issues. Using the unique resources of the ACO orchestra and other groups participants experience firsthand the role of leadership in an ensemble setting and and learn how this can directly translate to any leadership challenge.

BEGINNERS CLASS – Open to primary aged children

  • At this early stage students are introduced to the basics of their instrument.  
  • Special focus is given to posture hand and finger placement.
  • Other focus includes music theory, solo performance and learning to play together as a section. 
  • ​Students are prepared for concerts and encouraged all along the way. 
  • Children also learn to sing in the Australian Children’s Chorus & Choric Theatre as part of their musical training.  ​


LEVEL 1 – ​​Open to those who have completed the beginner class

  • Special emphasis is placed on ensuring technique remains correct. 
  • Focus is on intonation, rhythm, playing as a group (unison and part playing) as well as stylistic interpretation as it applies for all pieces learned at this stage.​
  • An Introduction to Rhythm Training and Aural Development is provided by trained specialist teachers along with Elementary Musicianship skills.
  • The children continue their training in the Australian Children’s Chorus & Choric Theatre as part of their overall musical training.


LEVEL 2 – SUITABLE FOR STUDENTS HOW HAVE COMPLETED Level 1

  • More stylistic interpretation as it applies for pieces learned at this stage of development.  
  • Special emphasis is placed on ensuring technique is well developed, and that it is correct and clear; a good tone is the most desirable aspect of this level.
  • Intermediate Rhythm Training and Aural Development are given along with a deeper focus on Intermediate Musicianship skills.
  • The children also continue their training in the Australian Children’s Chorus & Choric Theatre as part of their overall musical training


LEVEL 3 – SUITABLE FOR STUDENTS HOW HAVE COMPLETED Level 2

  • More stylistic interpretation as it applies for pieces learned at this stage of development.  
  • Advanced technique training and tone production is the main focus of this level.  
  • In addition, Advanced Rhythm Training and Aural Development are included along with Upper Intermediate Musicianship skills.
  • The children also continue their training in the Australian Children’s Chorus & Choric Theatre as part of their overall musical training 


CAMERATA – ​​Advanced Performing orchestra

  • Special emphasis is placed on ensuring technique is advancing along with stylistic interpretation, excellence in tone production, dynamics and other nuances. 
  • More Advanced Rhythm Training and Aural Development are included along with Advanced Musicianship skills.
  • The children also continue their training in the Australian Children’s Chorus & Choric Theatre as part of their overall musical training
