MASTERS INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE ​​- School of Music  ​​​​

  • Candidates may present their work in any form or style (Accredited teachers' / Schools' Syllabuses only)


  • Candidates may also elect to have their awards show which genre or style they have undertaken e.g.                Grade 4 in Rock Studies (Bass Guitar)
    Grade 5 in Jazz Studies (Saxophone)
    Grade 7 in Contemporary Music (Piano)  
    Provision is also made for other specialist areas: such as Baroque, 20th Century styles, as well.


  • This approach may be undertaken from the Primary Series right through to the highest levels 
    (see Advanced Performer and Master Performer Series).    
      


PRIMARY SERIES (Levels 1 - 10)  teacher assessed or online presentation)

  • Designed for the younger beginner - any style or genre may be applied to this Series.  
  • The Primary and Grade Series may be teacher/examiner assessed or presented online for an independent assessment.  
  • The Series is set up as follows: 


​Elementary -    Levels: 1 - 4
                             
Intermediate - Levels: 5 - 7 


 Advanced -     Levels 8 - 10                  
                           
PRIMARY HONOURS SERIES

– teacher assessed or online presentation


Music Laureate:  ML (Primary)

Upon completion of all 10 levels primary aged students are eligible to apply


Requirements:

A full course or program of high level primary pieces is required for this stage of development

          

Performance Proficiency Certificate:  PPC  (Primary)
Upon completion of the Music Laureate (Primary) primary aged students are eligible to apply

Requirements:
A full course or program of higher level primary pieces is required for this stage of development.         


Artistic Performance Certificate:  APC (Primary)
Upon completion of the Performance Proficiency Certificate (Primary) primary aged students are eligible to apply.

Note: Students completing the APC (P) may enter at a higher level into the Secondary Series as determined by  the candidate's teacher's (e.g. moving into the Secondary Series at the Intermediate or Advanced Stages).

Requirements:
A full course or program of higher level primary pieces is required for this stage of development.  ​

SECONDARY SERIES (Grades P-10):  – teacher assessed or online presentation 

  • Each Stage holds the pre-requisite of the previous Grade.  
  • Teachers may use their discretion in skipping a stage however teachers are well aware that students may not benefit by skipping essential work found at each stage of development.
  • Any style or genre may be applied to this Series.
  • This Series is also open to adults seeking accreditation.

SECONDARY HONOURS SERIES: 

(‘undergraduate’ levels – teacher assessed or online presentation)

    Pre-requisite: Grade 10


    Requirements:


  •  A program of four (4) high level works  in any style or genre e.g. classical, contemporary music, jazz, modern etc. 
  • Candidates may also perform on a minor instrument adding weight to their assessment, if desired. 
  • The examination may also be presented via an online video presentation.


  • Performance Proficiency Certificate: PPC ​(Secondary)

​​         Pre-requisite: ML (S) 


Requirements: ​


  • A program of six (6) high level works in any style or genre e.g. classical, contemporary music, jazz, modern etc. 
  • Candidates may also perform on a minor instrument adding weight to their assessment, if desired
  • The examination may also be presented via an online video presentation.


  • Artistic Performance Certificate:  APC (Secondary)

​​        Pre-requisite: PPC (S)

Requirements: 


  • A program of eight (8) high level works in any style or genre e.g. classical, contemporary music, jazz, modern etc.
  • Candidates may also perform on a minor instrument adding weight to their assessment, if desired
  • The examination may also be presented via an online video presentation.
  • Upon completion of this Series candidates may enter directly into the Tertiary Series (performance) at any age.


Note: Certain aspects of any assessment are not required where a disability is noted (hearing, sight, or speech impaired, etc.).

TERTIARY SERIES: PERFORMANCE

Notes for Performance candidates: 

  • Candidates may also perform on a minor instrument adding weight to their assessment, if desired.                 
  • Each award holds the pre-requisite of the preceding one) - any style or genre may be applied to this Series. 


  • The AMus may be entered without any previous qualification for adult performers. 
  • Candidates who have completed all levels of the Secondary Honours Series can enter for the AMus. at any age.

  Notes for Conducting candidates: 
Candidates may conduct as Choral Directors or as Orchestral / Band Conductors  or any mix, if desired.                 
Each award holds the pre-requisite of the preceding one) - any style or genre may be applied to this Series.  



The AMus may be entered without any previous qualification for adult performers.  
Candidates who have completed all levels of the Secondary Honours Series can enter for the AMus. at any age.

TERTIARY SERIES: MUSIC THERAPY

    Notes for Music Therapy candidates: 

  • Candidates applying for Music Therapy accreditation should have completed complementary studies in Counselling/Psychotherapy.
  • Candidates also need to be registered into the CPE Program (see pre-requisites) before undertaking any examination at this level. 
  • The term ‘Full Program’ refers to the candidates developing professional performance program. In addition to a full performance program candidates need to demonstrate the underlying psychotherapeutic approaches utilised via dissertation/discussion paper.
  • The term ‘Integrated Program’ refers to the candidates highly developed professional program within the Music Therapy/EAT arena.  In addition to the integrated performance program candidates need to demonstrate the underlying psychotherapeutic approaches utilised via dissertation/discussion paper.

Notes for Musicology candidates:

  • Includes but is not limited to works in Historical musicology, Jazz, Cultural musicology or Ethnomusicology, Popular music studies, Theory, Music Composition, Music psychology, Performance practice and research etc.
  • Candidates are required to submit a discussion/research paper plus program notes along with the video presentation of various performance aspects of the research.

Notes for Teacher of Music candidates: 

Pre-requisites for each level of this series:

 

  • Be able to discuss various teaching approaches based on Pedagogical Theory via  dissertation.
  • Be able to offer practical demonstrations via discussion in the examination.
  • Present a PowerPoint presentation of techniques and demonstrate same during the examination .
  • Full Program refers to the development of the candidate's teaching syllabuses for practice specific approaches and which are required to be demonstrated during the examination.
  • Integrated Program refers to the development of the candidate's practice specific approaches and which are required to be demonstrated during the examination.

  • Performance of own compositions are encouraged as are performances in varying genres including performances on related or other types of instruments including historical instruments.​
  • Pre-requisite: DSF-Mus (each award holds the pre-requisite of the preceding one)

  • Performance of own compositions are encouraged as are performances in varying genres including performances on related or other types of instruments including historical instruments.​
  • Pre-requisite: AA (each award holds the pre-requisite of the preceding one)

​         Pre-requisite: CPM 

 

  • Requirement:  Present a paper on various aspects of: "the relationship between performance applications and practice specific pedagogy", plus defence.  


  • MUSIC ADJUDICATOR  (Mus.Adj)

         Pre-requisite: FCPM & Mus.E


  • Requirement:  ​Present a second paper on various aspects of: "the relationship between performance applications and practice specific pedagogy", plus defence. 


  • MUSIC JUROR  (Mus.J)

           Pre-requisite: MCD & Mus.Adj

  • Requirement:  ​Present a third paper on various aspects of: "the relationship between performance applications and practice specific pedagogy", plus defence. 


  • ARTISTIC /ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF MUSIC (ADMus.)

        Pre-requisite: FMCD & Mus.J


Requirement:  ​Present a fourth paper on various aspects of: "the relationship between performance

applications and practice specific pedagogy", plus defence. 


  • MUSIC DIRECTOR  (Mus.D) 

         Pre-requisite: MCGD & ADMus


  • Requirement:  Present a paper on all aspects of practice specific promotion and development; with particular focus on direction in private and commercial level practices and/or education., plus defence.
